In 2017, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the highest-streamed hit song in just one year. The single a mix of pop music and reggaeton not only brought renewed attention to reggaeton, but also drew interest towards Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs in 2016 compared to two songs in the year the year 2015. In the midst of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 for 2020. there were 41 of them. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages of Despacito (2017) the most well-known musicians soon began collaborating on reggaeton tracks, like Drake along with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma for Medellin (2019). At the time of 2020, some reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at its inclination towards mainstream, but a new generation including Rauw Alejandro wanted to continue the evolution of reggaeton. The genre often included elements of electronic dance music as well as other types.
