The first guitar she received was gifted to her at the age of eight. She began singing in a Knoxville Tenn station by the age of eleven. She relocated to Nashville the day after graduating in 1964. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated show on TV at the time was searching for a singer for his show. Parton was offered the gig and in the year 1967, she signed with RCA Records in 1968 and was a part of with the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. The band split in 1974 when her solo hits such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene beat out the collaborations. Parton composed "I I Will Never Forget You" to Wagoner just after the pair split.
