Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. Born and raised in the suburbs of Barcelona The singer is described as an "atypical pop star" due to her diverse musical styles. When she was enthralled by Spanish folk music at age 13she enrolled in musicology at the Catalonia College of Music while playing at music bars and weddings.She was able to complete her studies with distinction, thanks to her album of cover songs that she collaborated together with Raul Refree, Los Angeles (2017), and the baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018). Combining flamenco, hip hop and pop The album resulted in "Malamente" (single) as well as "Pienso in tu Mira (single). Both singles sold out and were praised by critics across the world. El Mal Querer, who was awarded the Latin Grammy Award as Album of the Year and included in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time, started Rosalia's rise into the international scene of music. Rosalia's albums of 2019 "Con Altura" (13) and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi" (12-13) were pioneers in urbano , which earned her world-wide popularity. Her third studio album Motomami (2022) gave reggaeton an experimental new sound, departing from its previous flamenco-inspired style. Its singles "La Fama", and "Saoko" were able to capture the attention of international fans and was the top-rated album on Metacritic. Throughout her career, Rosalia has accumulated ten #1 singles from her home country, which is the highest number for an artist from the country. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year nominations) and four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been conferred to Rosalia. She also received two Premio Ruido Awards. In the year 2019 Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award for "changing the style of popular music with her innovative flamenco-influenced pop",[18and was the first singer from Spain in the history of music to be recognized as the the Best New Artist award at the Grammys
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She is the youngest of four children born to Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who runs a small metalworking company. Jose Manuel Vila was her father. He was born in Cudillero (Asturias). They divorced in 2019. The older sister Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative director. Rosalia became interested in the performing arts in her early years and was particularly interested when she came across the discography of Camaron de La Isla. At the Taller de Musics, she began her music education. She completed a six-year course at the academy. She began at the Raval school, then moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. She also independently was a singer on her own at weddings and in bars with musical music in which she was paid "a less than 80 euros in exchange for dinner". Rosalia had also interacted with a variety of underground Spanish musicians during this time like La Zowi (Yung Beef), Kaydy Cain and Hinds.
